Numbers 1 — Israel Counted and Organized for Battle
Numbers begins with God instructing Moses in the wilderness of Sinai to take a census of all the men twenty years old and upward who are able to go to war.

To end the people’s grumbling, God commands each tribe to bring a staff before Him.
