PHILIPPIANS 1 — To Live Is Christ
Joy survives chains when Christ is your life. 📖 What Happens in This Chapter • Paul thanks God for the Philippians’ partnership in the gospel. • He is confident God will complete the work He began. • His imprisonment actually advances the gospel. • Some preach Christ with wrong motives — but Christ is still proclaimed. • Paul wrestles between living and dying. • He urges believers to stand firm in unity and courage.
PHILIPPIANS 2 — The Mind of Christ
The way up in God’s kingdom is down. 📖 What Happens in This Chapter • Believers are called to unity and humility. • Paul presents the great Christ hymn (2:5–11). • Jesus, though fully God, humbles Himself. • He takes the form of a servant. • He becomes obedient to death — even death on a cross. • God highly exalts Him above every name. • Every knee will bow, every tongue confess. • Timothy and Epaphroditus model servant-hearted faithfulness.
PHILIPPIANS 3 — Press Toward the Prize
Jonah 3 records Jonah’s obedient but reluctant proclamation to Nineveh. The message is strikingly brief and severe — no explanation, no call to repentance, no promise of mercy.
PHILIPPIANS 4 — Rejoice Always
Chapter Anchor Contentment is learned when Christ is enough. 📖 What Happens in This Chapter • Paul urges reconciliation and unity. • “Rejoice in the Lord always.” • Anxiety is replaced with prayer and thanksgiving. • God’s peace guards hearts and minds. • Believers are told what to think on. • Paul shares the secret of contentment in every circumstance. • He thanks the Philippians for their generosity.
