In fear and unbelief, the Israelites refuse to enter Canaan and even talk of returning to Egypt. God threatens to destroy them, but Moses intercedes for mercy. God forgives but decrees that the unbelieving generation will die in the wilderness over forty years. Only Caleb and Joshua will enter the land. This chapter teaches that rebellion against God’s promises brings loss, yet His mercy preserves hope for the next generation.
