2 Timothy 1
Paul writes from Roman imprisonment, likely awaiting execution. Many associates have deserted him. This letter reads like spiritual inheritance being passed on.
2 Timothy 2
Paul urges Timothy to pass truth to faithful leaders. He uses three images — soldier, athlete, farmer — to describe endurance and discipline. He warns against false teaching (Hymenaeus and Philetus), calls for right handling of Scripture, and emphasizes gentleness in correction.
2 Timothy 3
Paul warns Timothy that difficult times will come. The danger is not just persecution, but moral decay and spiritual hypocrisy. He contrasts false teachers with Timothy’s faithful upbringing and directs him back to Scripture as the ultimate authority and equipping tool.
