Timothy 4

This chapter contains Paul’s final charge and personal farewell.

  1. The Solemn Charge

Paul charges Timothy before God and Christ to preach the Word faithfully — regardless of cultural response. People will seek teachers who affirm their desires rather than confront sin.

  1. Paul’s Personal Testimony

Paul declares he is “already being poured out as a drink offering.” His execution is near. Yet he is not bitter — he is victorious. He fought, finished, and kept the faith.

  1. The Crown

Paul anticipates the “crown of righteousness,” not just for himself but for all who love Christ’s appearing.

  1. Loneliness and Loyalty

Some abandoned him (Demas). Others served faithfully (Luke). Paul asks for simple things — a cloak, scrolls — reminding us of his humanity.

  1. The Lord’s Faithfulness

Even when friends failed, the Lord stood with him.

This chapter is legacy.
It teaches us how to die well.

Christ Foreshadowing & Anchor

Jesus is:
• The righteous Judge
• The One before whom all stand
• The faithful companion in abandonment
• The King whose kingdom is eternal
• The giver of the crown

Paul mirrors Christ:
Abandoned by many
Standing before authority
Trusting resurrection

2 Timothy 4

Verse 1

Before the Judge of living and dead,

Before the Christ who rose from the dead,

I charge you now — preach the Word,

In season, out — let truth be heard.

Reprove, rebuke, exhort with grace,

Stand firm though crowds turn from His face.

For days will come when ears will choose

Softened words and pleasant views.

Pre-Chorus

They’ll gather teachers for desire,

Trading truth for lesser fire.

Chorus

Preach the Word till breath is gone,

When night feels long, press on, press on.

For I am poured like offering wine,

My time has come, the end of line.

I have fought the good fight,

I have kept the faith through darkest night.

There waits for me a righteous crown —

When Christ the Judge comes down.

Verse 2

Demas loved this present age,

Left the field, stepped off the stage.

Only Luke remains nearby,

Others sent where churches cry.

Bring my cloak before the cold,

Bring the scrolls and parchment old.

Alexander did me harm,

Yet the Lord will guard from harm.

Bridge

At my defense none stood with me,

But may it not remembered be.

The Lord stood strong at my side,

That through me truth might still be cried.

From lion’s mouth He rescued sure —

His kingdom everlasting, pure.

Final Chorus

The Lord will bring me safely home,

To heavenly throne beyond this Rome.

All who long for His appearing

Will share the crown their hearts are fearing.

Grace be with you, stand upright —

And finish well the faithful fight.
