2 Peter 1 — Grow, Confirm, Stand Firm
Peter opens by affirming that believers share an equally precious faith through the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Salvation is not tiered — it is rooted entirely in Christ’s merit.
2 Peter 2 — False Teachers and Certain Judgment
Peter turns sharply to confront false teachers infiltrating the church. These teachers introduce destructive heresies, deny the Master, exploit believers for gain, and distort freedom into moral license. Their influence is persuasive and damaging. Many follow their sensuality, bringing dishonor upon the truth.
2 Peter 3 — The Lord’s Return and Eternal Hope
Peter addresses scoffers who mock the promise of Christ’s return. They argue that history continues unchanged and that judgment will not come. Peter counters by reminding them of creation and the flood — both initiated by the Word of God. The same Word now sustains the present heavens and earth, reserved for fire.
