- "Zephaniah 1 The Day of the Lord (1)".
- "Zephaniah 1 The Day of the Lord (1)".
Zephaniah 1 announces the coming “Day of the Lord” — a time of sweeping judgment that begins with Judah but extends to all the earth. God declares His intention to remove idolatry, complacency, and divided loyalty from among His people.
The chapter exposes spiritual indifference as dangerous rebellion. Those who assume God will not act are singled out for judgment. Wealth, status, and power offer no protection when the Day arrives.
This opening chapter establishes Zephaniah’s central theme: the Day of the Lord is both near and unavoidable.
Zephaniah 1 intensifies the need for refuge from the Day of the Lord. The sweeping judgment described here prepares the way for Christ, who later bears judgment so that mercy can be offered.
The silence before the Lord anticipates the moment when judgment falls — a silence ultimately broken at the cross, where justice and mercy meet.
Full Song Lyrics
Verse 1 — The Silence Before the Storm
The word of the Lord came in Josiah’s days
To a people drifting in divided ways
“I will sweep away the land,” He said
From beast to bird, from the living to the dead
The idols stand where My name once was
Hearts grown dull, no fear of God
Those who bow, then swear by Me
And swear by kings they cannot see
Chorus — The Day of the Lord
The great Day of the Lord is near
Near and coming fast
A day of wrath, a day of grief
A trumpet’s voice will blast
A day of darkness, clouds and gloom
Against the fortified
The proud will fall, the gold won’t save
No place left to hide
Verse 2 — The Complacent Heart
“I will search Jerusalem with light,”
Says the Lord who sees the night
Those who settle on the lees
Who say, “God will not act—He sees?”
Their houses taken, vineyards bare
They built with pride, but won’t dwell there
Silver and gold will fail that day
When the fire of judgment has its way
Chorus — The Day of the Lord
The great Day of the Lord is near
Near and coming fast
A day of wrath, a day of grief
A trumpet’s voice will blast
A day of anguish, battle cries
The warrior’s bitter scream
The whole earth shaken by His zeal
Nothing in between
Bridge — The Warning
Neither strength nor wealth will stand
When justice walks across the land
In jealous fire the Lord will move
To cleanse the faithless, wake the true
Final Chorus — A Call to Wake
The great Day of the Lord is near
Hear it while there’s time
Before the darkness fully falls
Before the final sign
Turn your heart, seek Him now
While mercy still is heard
For the Day is sure, the Judge is just
And faithful is His word
Outro
The Day draws near…
The Day draws near…
