The book opens with the voice of the bride expressing deep longing and desire for her beloved. She praises his love as better than wine and delights in his name and presence. Though she feels unworthy and self-conscious, she is still loved and pursued.
The chapter establishes mutual attraction, emotional intimacy, and the goodness of desire within covenant love. Love is portrayed as affirming rather than degrading, secure rather than shame-producing.
Christ lovingly draws His people to Himself, not based on worthiness, but on love. The bride’s longing reflects the soul’s desire for communion with God, and Christ’s presence removes shame rather than reinforcing it.
Song of Solomon 1 — “Draw Me After You”
A. Song Lyrics
Verse 1 — The Beloved (Bride)
Let Him kiss me with love sincere,
Sweeter than wine, His presence near.
Your name pours out like finest oil,
My heart awakens, my fears recoil.
Dark but lovely beneath the sun,
Weathered by labor, yet still His one.
Do not stare at my weary skin,
Love has already drawn me in.
Chorus — Beloved
Draw me after You, let us run,
Into the joy where love’s begun.
The King has brought me to His place,
We will rejoice in steadfast grace.
Your love is better far than wine,
I am Yours, and You are mine.
Verse 2 — Beloved
Tell me where You rest Your sheep,
Where You walk when shadows creep.
Why should I wander, lost and torn,
Among the flocks I don’t belong?
Verse 2 Response — Lover (Bridegroom)
If you do not know, most beautiful one,
Follow the paths where My lambs run.
Walk where the shepherds guide with care,
You will find Me waiting there.
Chorus — Together
Draw me after You, let us run,
Into the joy where love’s begun.
The King has brought me to His place,
We will rejoice in steadfast grace.
Your love is better far than wine,
I am Yours, and You are mine.
Verse 3 — Lover
You are lovely, My love, My own,
Like finest jewels, My words are sewn.
I’ll adorn you with silver bright,
Gold-lined grace in gentle light.
Verse 4 — Beloved
While the King reclines in peace,
My heart’s devotion won’t decrease.
Like myrrh upon my waiting breast,
Your love is where my soul finds rest.
A cluster sweet from Engedi’s vine,
You are my joy, my chosen sign.
Final Chorus — Together
Draw us after You, we will stay,
Bound in love that will not fade.
Beautiful You, and beautiful me,
Love awakened faithfully.
Outro — Chorus / Friends
Behold, how lovely love has begun…
Pure desire beneath the sun.
