Jeremiah 31 stands at the emotional and theological heart of the book. God reveals His everlasting love for Israel, describing Himself with tender, parental language — a Father who cannot forget His child and a Mother whose compassion overcomes grief.
The chapter moves from sorrow to joy. Rachel’s weeping over lost children symbolizes exile and loss, yet God commands her to stop weeping because restoration is coming. What was scattered will return. What was broken will be rebuilt.
At the center of the chapter is the promise of the New Covenant. Unlike the covenant written on stone, this covenant will be written on human hearts. Knowledge of God will no longer depend on instruction alone, but on transformed hearts. Forgiveness will be complete, and sin will no longer define the relationship.
Jeremiah 31 teaches that God’s final word is not judgment, but renewal — not law imposed, but love internalized. The covenant relationship is restored not by human effort, but by God’s faithful grace.
I Will Write It on Your Heart” — Jeremiah 31
Verse 1 — Everlasting Love
“At that time,” the Lord declares,
“I will be their God, I’ll meet them there
I loved you with an endless love
I drew you close with cords of love
You found Me grace in desert land
When rest was lost, I held your hand
I will build you once again
Virgin Israel, you’ll dance again”
Chorus — Love That Does Not Let Go
I have loved you, loved you long
Loved you through what went so wrong
With unfailing love I draw you near
You are still My people here
What I began I will complete
Love has spoken… love will keep
Verse 2 — The Homeward Road
Again you’ll plant your vineyards wide
On Samaria’s hillside
Again the watchmen cry, “Arise!
Let us go where Zion lies”
I’ll bring them back from distant lands
The blind, the lame, a weeping band
With mercy strong, with guiding care
I’ll lead them home — I’ll meet them there
Chorus — A Father’s Song
I am Israel’s Father still
Ephraim remains My will
With tears you left, with joy return
Your shame is gone, your heart has learned
The Lord who scattered gathers too
Compassion sings… compassion moves
Bridge — Rachel Weeps, Hope Answers
A voice is heard in Ramah’s cry
Rachel weeps, her tears won’t dry
She mourns the children torn away
Lost to exile’s cruel delay
But hear the word — restrain your tears
There is a hope beyond these years
Your children will come home again
Hope stands firm… this is not the end
Verse 3 — A Changed Heart
I heard Ephraim’s broken plea
“You disciplined and humbled me
Turn me back — I now confess
I bore the shame of faithlessness”
Is Ephraim not My precious son?
My heart still aches for him
Though I spoke against his ways
My mercy burns… it will not fade
Chorus — Mercy Stronger Than Wrath
My heart is moved, My compassions stirred
I will surely show My mercy, says the Lord
I remember you, I still delight
I hold you close both day and night
Justice spoke, but love outlasts
Mercy holds the final word at last
Verse 4 — The New Covenant
The days will come — the Lord declares —
A covenant unlike the former years
Not written stone that hearts ignore
But living truth at the very core
I’ll write My law upon their heart
I’ll be their God, they’ll be My part
No more will neighbor teach the way
“All will know Me,” says the Lord that day
Final Chorus — Forgiven and Known
I will forgive what they have done
Remember sin — no more, no more
From least to great, My people whole
Each heart restored, each wounded soul
The covenant stands, the promise sure
