Romans 5 Teaching Notes / Biblical Summary

Romans 5 unfolds the results of justification and the contrast between Adam and Christ.

Key truths:

  1. Justification brings peace with God (5:1).
  2. Believers stand in grace and rejoice in hope (5:2).
  3. Suffering produces endurance, character, and hope (5:3–4).
  4. God’s love demonstrated through Christ’s death for sinners (5:6–8).
  5. Justified by blood — saved from wrath (5:9).
  6. Reconciled while enemies (5:10).
  7. Adam introduced sin and death (5:12).
  8. Christ introduced grace and righteousness (5:15–19).
  9. Law revealed sin but did not remove it (5:20).
  10. Grace reigns through righteousness to eternal life (5:21).

This chapter answers:

What has Christ accomplished?
• Peace
• Reconciliation
• Justification
• Victory over Adam’s fall

How does grace compare to sin?
Grace surpasses it.

The courtroom now shifts to coronation:
Grace reigns.

Romans 5

Therefore, since by faith declared

Righteous — mercy freely shared —

We have peace with God above

Through the Lord of covenant love.

Through Him we stand in grace secure,

A hope of glory firm and sure.

We boast not in our strength or claim,

But in the honor of His name.

And even in our suffering’s flame,

We boast — for growth is born in pain.

Suffering births endurance strong,

Endurance shapes where hope belongs.

Hope does not shame nor fade away,

For God’s own love in hearts will stay.

The Spirit poured, the seal applied,

Love confirmed when Christ had died.

For while we still were weak and lost,

Christ died for us — at highest cost.

Rare the man for righteous friend,

But God showed love without an end.

While we were sinners, rebels still,

Christ fulfilled the Father’s will.

Now justified by blood once shed,

Saved from wrath that justice bred.

If enemies were reconciled

Through death of God’s own perfect Child,

How much more shall life now save

Those the risen Lord forgave?

Rejoice in God through Christ our King,

Through whom reconciliation springs.

Now hear the contrast — ancient thread:

Through one man sin and death were spread.

Through Adam’s trespass entered all,

And death reigned over great and small.

Before the Law was written plain,

Sin was present — death still reigned.

Adam stood as pattern cast

Of Him whose work would end the past.

But not like trespass is the gift —

Grace is greater, stronger lift.

If many died through one man’s fall,

How much more grace now covers all.

Through one offense came condemnation,

Through one act — justification.

Through one man’s disobedient stand,

Sin ruled earth with heavy hand.

Through one Man’s obedience bright,

Many made righteous in God’s sight.

Law came in so sin was shown —

But grace surpassed what sin had grown.

Where sin increased and darkness spread,

Grace abounded more instead.

So death once ruled through Adam’s line,

But grace now reigns through life divine —

Through Jesus Christ, the Righteous One,

The Second Adam — victory won.
