This chapter answers:

Is God faithful to His promises?
Yes.

Romans 9 — Sovereign mercy
Romans 10 — Human response
Romans 11 — Covenant faithfulness

And it ends not in debate —
But doxology.

Christ Lens

In Romans 11, Christ is:

  • The Deliverer from Zion
• The Root sustaining the branches
• The Fulfillment of covenant promise
• The Source of mercy for Jew and Gentile

From Him.
Through Him.
To Him.

Romans 11

Has God rejected Israel?

By no means — hear it plain.

For I myself, of Abraham,

Stand witness of His reign.

God has not cast away His own

Whom He foreknew in grace.

Remember Elijah’s lonely cry —

“I stand the last in place.”

Yet God had kept a remnant still,

Seven thousand true.

So now as well a remnant stands

By grace — not works you do.

If by grace, then not by works —

Or grace would cease to be.

What Israel sought by effort’s climb

The chosen gained freely.

The rest were hardened as foretold,

Eyes that would not see.

Yet through their stumbling mercy came

To Gentile nations free.

Salvation reached the outer lands

To stir up holy flame —

If their fall brought riches wide,

What greater when they’re claimed?

If root is holy, so the branch;

If firstfruit, so the whole.

But branches broken from the tree

For unbelieving soul.

Wild olive shoots were grafted in,

Now sharing in the root.

So do not boast against the branch —

Stand firm in humble fruit.

You stand by faith — not prideful claim.

God did not spare before.

His kindness and severity

Are truths we must adore.

If they do not remain in doubt,

God grafts them in again.

For He has power to restore

What once was broken then.

A mystery now revealed:

A partial hardening came

Until the fullness of the Gentiles —

Then Israel reclaimed.

And so all Israel shall be saved

As prophets once declared.

A Deliverer from Zion comes —

Forgiveness fully shared.

As to the Gospel, enemies;

As to election, loved.

For gifts and calling from our God

Are never once removed.

Just as you once disobeyed

Yet mercy now have known,

So they too will receive that grace

By mercy overthrown.

God bound all in disobedience

That mercy might be shown.

Oh, depth of riches, wisdom, might —

How unsearchable His ways!

Who knew the mind of God Most High?

Who counseled Him in days?

From Him and through Him, unto Him

Are all things evermore.

To Him be glory without end —

Let every heart adore.

Mercy sovereign.

Promise sure.

God faithful still.
