Romans 10 Teaching Notes / Biblical Summary

Romans 10 emphasizes human responsibility in response to the Gospel.

Key truths:

  1. Paul desires Israel’s salvation (10:1).
  2. Zeal without knowledge leads to self-righteousness (10:2–3).
  3. Christ is the culmination (end/goal) of the Law (10:4).
  4. Righteousness by faith is accessible — not distant (10:6–8).
  5. Salvation requires belief and confession (10:9–10).
  6. No distinction between Jew and Gentile (10:12).
  7. Everyone who calls on the Lord will be saved (10:13).
  8. Faith comes by hearing the message of Christ (10:17).
  9. Israel heard but did not submit (10:18–21).

This chapter answers:

How is righteousness received?
By believing in the risen Lord and calling upon Him.

Sovereignty (Romans 9)
Now meets proclamation and response.

Christ Lens

In Romans 10, Christ is:

  • The End and Fulfillment of the Law
• The Risen Lord
• The One who must be confessed
• The Name that saves

Salvation is not hidden.
It is near.

Not earned.
Received.

It does not say, “Who climbs above?”

Or “Who descends below?”

The word is near — within your heart,

Upon your lips to know.

If you confess with mouth that Christ

Is Lord of all and King,

And believe God raised Him from the dead,

Salvation He will bring.

For with the heart one trusts and stands

Declared as righteous, clean.

With mouth confession openly

Makes salvation seen.

Scripture says whoever trusts

Will never be ashamed.

No difference stands — Jew or Greek —

One Lord by all proclaimed.

Rich to all who call His name,

Mercy without end.

For everyone who calls on Him

Will find the Savior friend.

But how can they call if they’ve not believed?

How believe if they’ve not heard?

How hear unless a voice is sent

To speak the living Word?

How beautiful the feet that go

With good and saving news.

Yet not all heard obeyed the call —

Some still refuse.

Faith comes by hearing truth declared —

By hearing Christ proclaimed.

But did they hear? Yes, voice went out,

Creation bore His name.

Did Israel not understand?

They heard but would not see.

A nation seeking righteousness

Yet missing faith’s decree.

All day long God stretched His hands

To stubborn hearts opposed —

Inviting still, extending grace,

While mercy’s door stood open.

Righteousness is not achieved.

It is received by faith.

The word is near. The door is open.

Call upon His name.
