Peter 2 — A Holy People and a Suffering

Believers are living stones being built into a spiritual house. Christ is the cornerstone — rejected by men but chosen by God. Those who believe are honored; those who reject stumble.

Peter applies Old Testament identity language: a chosen race, royal priesthood, holy nation, God’s own possession. Their calling is to proclaim His excellencies.

Believers are strangers and exiles. They must abstain from fleshly passions and live honorably among unbelievers.

Submission becomes central: submit to governing authorities, endure unjust suffering, and follow Christ’s example. Jesus committed no sin, did not retaliate, entrusted Himself to the Father, bore sins in His body, and healed us by His wounds.

Christ Foreshadowing Anchor

Jesus is the cornerstone and rejected stone.
He is the true royal priest.
He suffered without retaliation.
By His wounds we are healed.
He is Shepherd and Overseer of our souls.

1 Peter 2 — “Living Stones”

1 Peter 2

Verse 1

Lay aside what poisons grow —

Malice, envy, hidden show.

Crave the milk that makes you strong,

Pure and steady, faith made long.

You have tasted God is kind,

Grace that reshapes heart and mind.

Chorus

We are living stones being raised,

Built on Christ, the Cornerstone praised.

Rejected once, but chosen, sure —

In Him we stand secure.

A royal priesthood, set apart,

Called from dark to light of heart.

Verse 2

To Him we come, though men refuse,

God has honored what they lose.

Those who trust will not be shamed,

But stumbling waits for hearts unclaimed.

Chosen race and holy nation,

People called for proclamation —

Once not known, now mercy’s own,

Once in dark, now light has shone.

Verse 3

Strangers walking foreign ground,

Guard your soul from lust unbound.

Live so well before their sight

They may see and praise the Light.

Submit for conscience to the throne —

Whether rulers you have known.

Freedom used not as disguise,

But servants under God’s own eyes.

Pre-Chorus

Honor all and love the kin,

Fear the Lord who dwells within.

Verse 4

Servants, even under strain,

Endure unjust and bear the pain.

For if you suffer doing right,

This finds favor in His sight.

Christ endured when reviled,

Silent, steady, undefiled.

He entrusted every blow

To the Judge who sees below.

Bridge

He bore our sins upon the tree,

That we from sin might finally be free.

By His wounds we are restored,

Straying sheep brought home to Lord.

Final Chorus

Cornerstone once cast aside,

Now foundation firm and wide.

Follow Him through shame and scar —

He is Shepherd where we are.
