Internal injustice surfaces: wealthy Jews exploit poor families through loans, interest, and forced servitude. Nehemiah confronts the nobles, reminding them that God’s people must not enslave one another. He sets a personal example by refusing the governor’s allowance and serving sacrificially. Justice, mercy, and righteousness are essential to God’s community. This chapter teaches that spiritual revival demands not only prayer but also ethical living and compassion.
Christ-Foreshadowing: Nehemiah laying down his rights to lift others anticipates Christ, who emptied Himself to redeem humanity and restore justice.
