Nehemiah appears sad before the king, risking punishment, yet God grants him favor. He receives permission, letters of safe passage, and supplies for rebuilding. Upon arriving in Jerusalem, Nehemiah inspects the ruins quietly at night, seeing firsthand the devastation. He then calls the people to rise and rebuild, inspiring unity and courage despite ridicule from surrounding enemies. This chapter reveals how God prepares, equips, and positions His servants long before the work begins. Leadership requires vision, planning, courage, and deep dependence on God. Christ-Foreshadowing: Nehemiah surveying the ruins resembles Christ entering the broken world—seeing humanity’s devastation and coming to build a new Kingdom.
