To repopulate Jerusalem, one out of every ten people is chosen to live inside the city walls while others remain in surrounding towns. Leaders settle in Jerusalem, and families are listed by tribe and role—priests, Levites, gatekeepers, and workers. Rebuilding the city required both sacrifice and willingness to serve where God placed them. This chapter teaches the importance of offering one’s life for God’s purposes, even in unseen or less glamorous assignments.
Christ-Foreshadowing: Those who willingly relocate to strengthen the city mirror Christ, who left the glory of heaven to dwell among His people and build God’s dwelling place.
