Nahum 2 describes the fall of Nineveh with vivid, fast-moving imagery. The prophet portrays the invading army breaching the city’s defenses, chariots racing through the streets, and floodwaters contributing to the collapse.
Nineveh’s wealth, once accumulated through conquest and cruelty, is plundered. Panic replaces confidence. The city that once terrified nations now dissolves in chaos.
The lion imagery exposes Nineveh’s identity as a predator empire — feeding on others without restraint. Its destruction is not random, but a direct reversal of its violence.
Nahum 2 shows that no empire built on cruelty endures. Power rooted in fear eventually collapses under God’s authority.
This prepares the way for Christ’s kingdom — not established through terror, plunder, or domination, but through self-giving love and truth. Where Nineveh devoured, Christ lays down His life.
The fall of the violent city anticipates the ultimate overthrow of all oppressive powers under God’s reign.
Nahum 2 — Behold, the City Falls
Verse 1 — The Attacker Advances
The destroyer marches toward your gate
Guard the fortress — watch the way
Man the walls, draw strength in haste
Brace yourselves — prepare for fate
For the Lord restores His own
Though Jacob’s pride was overthrown
Plundered vines, broken land
Now judgment turns to Nineveh’s hand
Chorus — Behold
Behold — the city falls
Hear the drums against the walls
Behold — the flood, the flame
No one escapes, no one remains
Behold — the Lord repays
Violence answered, blood displayed
Verse 2 — Shields and Steel
Shields flash red in warrior hands
Soldiers dressed for death’s command
Chariots race through streets of fire
Steel collides, wheels flying higher
They charge like lightning through the square
Torch-like blur in open air
The gates give way, the river swells
Nineveh hears its judgment bell
Pre-Chorus
The palace melts, the waters rise
What stood secure now starts to slide
Chorus — Behold
Behold — the city falls
Hear the drums against the walls
Behold — the flood, the flame
No one escapes, no one remains
Behold — the Lord repays
Violence answered, blood displayed
Verse 3 — The Queen Led Away
She is stripped, she is led out
Servants mourn with trembling shout
Like doves they beat their grieving chests
Captive now — no royal rest
Nineveh once a pool so wide
Now its waters rush aside
“Stand your ground!” the captains cry
But none look back — all flee the fight
Bridge — Plunder
Plunder the silver — plunder the gold
Endless wealth once tightly held
Now emptied streets, unguarded store
Riches gone forevermore
Hearts melt fast, knees shake weak
Faces pale — strength obsolete
Verse 4 — The Lions’ Den
Where is now the lions’ den?
The feeding ground of ruthless men
Where rulers tore their prey apart
And filled their caves with stolen hearts
The lion fed, the cubs grew fat
None dared ask, “Why do you act?”
Now silence fills the bloodstained ground
The hunters gone — no roar, no sound
Final Chorus — The Fall Complete
Behold — the city falls
The empire cracks, the terror stalls
Behold — no strength can save
What cruelty and pride enslave
Behold — the Lord has spoken
The violent throne is broken
Outro — The End Begins
This is the day, this is the hour
The Lord has stripped the tyrant’s power
What was feared through all the land
