Micah 3 delivers a direct indictment of Israel’s leaders — political rulers, priests, and prophets alike. Those entrusted with justice instead exploit the people, described in shocking imagery as consuming them like meat.
When judgment comes, these leaders will cry out to God, but He will not answer — because they refused to hear the cries of the oppressed. False prophets are exposed as hired voices who proclaim peace only when paid, turning truth into a commodity.
The chapter ends with a devastating conclusion: Jerusalem itself will fall. Religious presence and sacred buildings do not protect a society built on injustice. Leadership corruption brings national collapse.
Micah 3 exposes the failure of every human leadership structure. Kings, priests, and prophets all fall short — leaving no one fit to lead God’s people rightly.
This chapter creates the longing for a Leader who cannot be bribed,
a Shepherd who does not consume the flock,
a Prophet who speaks only what God gives,
and a King who builds without bloodshed.
Only after Micah 3 does the promise of a righteous ruler truly matter.
Micah 3 — Leaders Condemned
Verse 1 — Hear, You Who Rule
Hear this now, you heads of Jacob
Rulers of the house of Israel
Is it not for you to know justice?
Yet you twist it, know it well
You hate the good, you love the wrong
Tear the skin from the people strong
Break their bones, consume their flesh
As meat prepared — no shame, no rest
Chorus — When You Cry Out
Then you will cry out to the Lord
But He will not answer your call
You closed your ears to the broken ones
Now heaven will echo your fall
He will hide His face in that day
Because of the evil you chose as your way
Verse 2 — Devoured
You eat My people like daily bread
Strip their skin, crush what’s left
Chop them up like flesh for the pot
As if their lives were worth so little, forgot
You judge with hands already stained
Blood on the scales you claim are clean
You wear your power like a crown
But justice bleeds beneath the ground
Chorus — When You Cry Out
Then you will cry out to the Lord
But He will not answer your call
You closed your ears to the broken ones
Now heaven will echo your fall
He will hide His face in that day
Because of the evil you chose as your way
Verse 3 — Prophets for Hire
Thus says the Lord against the seers
Who lead My people into fear
If they’re fed, they speak of peace
If not, they sharpen warlike teeth
They cry out “Peace” for silver gained
But preach destruction if unpaid
Their words are sold, their visions blind
Truth replaced with profit signs
Bridge — Night Without Vision
Night will come without a dream
Darkness falls — no word, no theme
The sun goes down on prophets’ sight
Seers ashamed, all covered tight
No answer comes, no voice is heard
Because there is no word from God
Verse 4 — Power Without Truth
You say, “The Lord is here with us
No disaster will come near us”
Yet you build Zion with blood and lies
Jerusalem raised on the tears and cries
Rulers judge for a bribe’s reward
Priests teach truth for a paid accord
Prophets tell fortunes for earned demand
Yet claim the Lord is close at hand
Final Chorus — The Verdict
You will cry out to the Lord
But He will not answer your call
You trusted position, not righteousness
Now silence answers you all
You spoke His name, but denied His way
So His face will turn in that day
Outro — The Line That Must Land
Therefore because of you
Zion will be plowed like a field
Jerusalem becomes a heap of ruins
The temple mount — overgrown, concealed
