Matthew 28 proclaims the resurrection of Jesus Christ and commissions His followers to carry this truth to the world. The chapter opens with women discovering the empty tomb and receiving the angelic announcement that Jesus has risen, just as He promised. Fear gives way to joy as Jesus Himself appears, confirming the victory over death.
While religious leaders attempt to suppress the truth with bribery and lies, Jesus meets His disciples and declares that all authority in heaven and on earth belongs to Him. He then entrusts them with the Great Commission: to make disciples of all nations, baptizing and teaching them to obey His commands.
The Gospel closes not with an ending, but with a beginning — a global mission grounded in resurrection power and sustained by Christ’s abiding presence.
What was foreshadowed throughout Scripture is fulfilled here: Jesus is the Risen King, the Victor over death, and the Lord of all authority. The empty tomb confirms His identity, the commission extends His reign, and His promise to remain with His people ensures the mission’s endurance until He returns.
Matthew 28 — He Is Risen
(Song Lyrics — Story-Centered)
Verse 1 — The Stone Rolled Away
At dawn they came with trembling hearts,
To where the sealed grave tore hope apart.
The earth shook hard, the stone was torn,
An angel sat where death had sworn.
“Why seek the living among the dead?
He is not here — just as He said.”
Fear fell silent, wonder grew,
The tomb stood empty, the promise true.
Pre-Chorus
What night had claimed could not remain,
Life outran the reach of pain.
Chorus — He Is Risen
He is risen, death undone,
The grave outpaced by heaven’s Son.
The cross fulfilled, the curse erased,
The risen Lord stands full of grace.
Do not fear — lift up your eyes,
The living Christ before you stands.
Verse 2 — Go and Tell
They ran with joy and trembling breath,
Good news faster than their steps.
Then Jesus met them on the way,
Alive in glory, near as day.
“Do not be afraid,” His mercy said,
“Go tell My brothers — hope’s ahead.”
From tears to worship, knees bowed low,
Resurrection seen and known.
Chorus — He Is Risen
He is risen, risen indeed,
Not a tale the fearful need.
Hands once pierced now lifted high,
The Victor lives — no more to die.
From empty tomb to living voice,
All who see Him now rejoice.
Verse 3 — Lies and Authority
Guards shook silent, truth stood tall,
Coins were paid to bury the call.
“Say His friends came in the night,”
A lie still whispered to dim the light.
But on the mountain, clear and strong,
Jesus spoke where truth belongs:
“All authority is Mine to claim,
In heaven and earth — all in My Name.”
Bridge — The Great Commission
Go make disciples, every land,
Teach them all I have commanded.
Baptize them in the Father, Son,
And Spirit — Three yet One.
I am with you all your days,
To the end of time’s last page.
Final Chorus — He Is Risen
He is risen — now we go,
Bearing light the world must know.
Not alone, not left behind,
His presence walks with all mankind.
From first belief to final breath,
The risen Christ outlives all death.
Outro — Until the End
The story ends where mission starts,
With living hope in faithful hearts.
The King still reigns, the promise true—
“I am with you”… always… through and through.
