Matthew 10

Matthew 10 records Jesus sending out the Twelve, granting them authority while stripping away false expectations. The mission is urgent, dependent on God, and marked by opposition. Jesus prepares His disciples for rejection, persecution, and division — even within families.

This chapter emphasizes that following Jesus is not safe or socially convenient. Loyalty to Christ must surpass loyalty to comfort, relationships, and self-preservation. Yet Jesus also reassures His followers of the Father’s care, calling them to fearless witness and endurance.

Christ-Foreshadowing

Jesus speaks as the Suffering King, sending His followers down the same path He will walk. His warnings anticipate His own rejection, betrayal, and crucifixion. The call to take up the cross foreshadows His death, while the promise of reward points to resurrection and eternal vindication.

Matthew 10 — The Cost of the Call

(Song Lyrics — Response One Style)

Verse 1 — Sent Out

He called them close and spoke their names,

Gave them authority, not comfort or fame.

Power to heal, to cast out fear,

But no illusion the road was clear.

“Go to the lost, the wandering sheep,

Proclaim the Kingdom — wake the asleep.

Freely you’ve received, freely give,

This mission costs more than you think you’ll live.”

Pre-Chorus

No extra weight, no second plan,

Trust the hand that sends the man.

Chorus — The Cost of the Call

This is the cost of the call — take nothing but truth,

No silver safety, no borrowed proof.

The message divides, the road is thin,

Some doors will close, some hearts won’t bend.

If you follow Me, count it all—

This is the cost of the call.

Verse 2 — Rejected and Received

If a house receives you, peace will remain,

If it rejects you, shake off the stain.

You’ll be sent like sheep among wolves,

Wise as serpents, innocent too.

Courts and councils will know your face,

Families fracture under grace.

Brother against brother, child against name,

The gospel cuts deeper than any blade.

Chorus — The Cost of the Call

This is the cost of the call — don’t be surprised,

When truth is hated and love is tried.

They called the Master what they will call you,

Darkness reacts when the light breaks through.

If you follow Me, count it all—

This is the cost of the call.

Verse 3 — Do Not Fear

Do not fear what the body can kill,

Fear the One who holds your will.

What’s whispered now will be proclaimed,

Every hidden truth will be named.

You’re worth more than sparrows that fall,

The Father sees, He counts them all.

Confess Me now before the crowd,

Or deny Me — the choice is loud.

Bridge — Sword, Not Peace

I did not come to keep the calm,

But truth will tear where lies were drawn.

Whoever loves more than Me will lose,

Father, mother, self must choose.

Take your cross, not comfort’s ease,

Lose your life to truly keep.

Final Chorus — The Cost of the Call

This is the cost of the call — no turning back,

No middle road, no softer track.

Lose your life, your grip, your claim,

And find it whole in My Name.

The crown comes later, first the fall—

This is the cost of the call.

Outro

A cup of water, a prophet’s stand,

Heaven records what earth unmanned.

The message is heavy, the reward is sure—

Endure to the end… endure.
