Luke 4 reveals the foundation of Jesus’ ministry: Spirit-filled obedience, faithfulness under testing, and a clearly declared mission. Jesus resists temptation not through power, but through submission to God’s Word, succeeding where humanity has failed.
Returning in the power of the Spirit, Jesus announces His mission in the synagogue using Isaiah’s prophecy — good news for the poor, freedom for captives, sight for the blind, and release for the oppressed. This declaration defines the nature of the Kingdom: restorative, merciful, and Spirit-led.
The chapter closes with rejection at Nazareth. Though initially admired, Jesus is ultimately opposed when He reveals that God’s grace extends beyond familiar boundaries. Even so, Jesus passes through the crowd unharmed, showing that rejection cannot derail God’s purpose.
Luke 4 foreshadows Christ as the obedient Son who triumphs through faithfulness, not force. His victory in the wilderness anticipates His victory at the cross. The Isaiah proclamation anticipates the full redemption accomplished through His death and resurrection, while His rejection prefigures the opposition He will face throughout His ministry.

Full Song Lyrics
Verse 1 — Led into the Wilderness
Filled with the Spirit, Jesus goes
Led into hunger, trial, and woe
Forty days beneath the sun
The testing comes, the work begun
“If You are the Son,” the tempter says
“Turn these stones to daily bread”
Chorus — It Is Written
It is written — truth stands fast
Not by bread alone we last
Every word the Father speaks
Is the strength the faithful seek
Verse 2 — The World Offered
Kingdoms shown in borrowed light
Power promised without the fight
“Bow once here, the crown is Yours”
Jesus answers, Scripture poured
“Worship God and Him alone”
No divided heart or throne
Verse 3 — The Temple Test
“Prove the Word — let angels fly”
The Scripture bent to test the sky
Jesus speaks what holds the line
“Do not test the Lord divine”
The devil leaves — the hour done
Until another time will come
Chorus — Faithful Son
Faithful Son in hidden pain
Victory won without a gain
Obedience the chosen way
Before the cross, the desert stay
Verse 4 — Power Returned
In Spirit’s power He returns
Good news spreads where hope still burns
Teaching truth in gathered towns
Light moves in where hearts are found
Verse 5 — The Scroll Unrolled
In Nazareth where He was raised
He stands to read the ancient page
“The Spirit of the Lord is here
Good news for poor, release from fear
Sight for blind, the captive free
The year of God’s jubilee”
Chorus — Today Fulfilled
Today this word is fully seen
The promise stands — alive, complete
What prophets longed to see and hear
Has come to pass — the Kingdom’s here
Verse 6 — Rejected at Home
At first they marvel, then they turn
Familiar truth begins to burn
“No prophet finds a welcome here”
He names the pride they cannot bear
From widow’s oil to foreign land
God’s grace moves where hearts expand
Final Chorus — Passing Through
They rise in rage, the cliff stands near
But He walks through — untouched by fear
His hour not yet, His path still clear
The mission moves — the Kingdom near
Outro
Anointed One, rejected still
Yet walking on in Father’s will
