Luke 20 records a series of confrontations between Jesus and the religious authorities. They challenge His authority, but Jesus exposes their unwillingness to face truth. Through the parable of the vineyard, Jesus reveals Israel’s history of rejecting God’s messengers and foretells His own rejection.
Jesus skillfully dismantles traps about politics and theology, affirming both civic responsibility and divine allegiance. He corrects false views of resurrection and reveals that the Messiah is greater than David. The chapter closes with a warning against religious leaders who exploit others while appearing righteous.
Luke 20 foreshadows Christ as the rejected Son and cornerstone whose authority cannot be overturned. The parable anticipates the cross, while the resurrection teaching points beyond death to eternal life in God.

Full Song Lyrics
Verse 1 — The Question
In the temple courts they came
Chiefs and elders spoke His name
“By what authority do You act?
Who gave You power — answer that”
Jesus said, “I’ll ask you too
John’s baptism — God or you?”
Chorus — Refused to Answer
They reasoned hard, but would not speak
Truth was costly, fear was deep
So Jesus said what followed then
“Neither will I answer men”
Verse 2 — The Vineyard
He told a story clear and sharp
Of tenants given vineyard parts
Servants sent to gather fruit
Beaten, wounded, sent aloof
Last of all, the son was sent
They killed him — seized what wasn’t theirs then
Chorus — The Stone
The stone the builders threw away
Has become the cornerstone today
Whoever falls will surely break
Whoever it falls on — crushed awake
Verse 3 — Traps Set
They watched Him close, sent spies instead
With flattering words they tried to bend
“Is it right to pay the tax?”
He asked for coin — exposed the act
“Whose image?” — “Caesar’s face”
“Give Caesar his — give God His place”
Verse 4 — No Resurrection?
Some denied the rising day
Mocked with questions meant to sway
Seven brothers, one poor wife
“Whose will she be in future life?”
Jesus said, “You miss the truth
God is living — not the mute
He’s the God of those alive
Abraham still lives in Him”
Chorus — God of the Living
God is not of death and dust
But living hope and faithful trust
Those who rise belong to Him
Life goes on — it doesn’t end
Verse 5 — David’s Son
“How is Christ both Lord and son?”
He questioned them — the answer gone
David called Him Lord outright
So how can both be true at once?
Verse 6 — Final Warning
He turned and warned the crowd that day
Of teachers dressed to be displayed
They love the seats, the prayers made long
But devour widows all along
Judgment waits — their end severe
For using God to feed their fear
Final Chorus — Authority
Truth stands firm when tests are made
Authority is not man-made
Every trap, every disguise
Fell apart before His eyes
Outro
They questioned Him — He stood alone
Truth remained when words were gone
