Judges 5 — The Song of Deborah

Judges 5 is Deborah and Barak’s victory song, poetically retelling the events of chapter 4. It praises the tribes who bravely answered God’s call and rebukes those who stayed home. The song describes God marching into battle, the stars fighting from heaven, and the torrent from Kishon sweeping Sisera’s army away. It honors Jael’s courage and contrasts her blessing with Sisera’s mother waiting in vain. The song ends with, “May all who love the Lord be like the rising sun.” It teaches Israel—and us—that God Himself fights for His people, and their obedience brings glory and peace.
