Judges 21 concludes the book with Israel grieving the near extinction of Benjamin. But they face their own rash oath not to give daughters to the tribe. To preserve Benjamin, they bring women from Jabesh Gilead and later permit the remaining Benjamites to take wives during a festival at Shiloh. The chapter ends with the haunting summary: “In those days Israel had no king; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” It emphasizes the need for a righteous King—ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
