Judges 13 opens with Israel oppressed by the Philistines. The Angel of the Lord appears to a barren woman in Zorah, telling her she will bear a son dedicated as a Nazarite from the womb—no wine, no unclean food, and no razor must ever touch his hair. Manoah asks the Angel for guidance, and the Angel ascends in the flame of their offering. Samson is born, blessed by God, and stirred by the Spirit. The chapter reveals God choosing unlikely people and preparing deliverance long before it arrives.
