Judges 11 tells of Jephthah, rejected by his brothers because he was born to a prostitute. Forced to flee, he becomes a warrior leader in Tob. When Ammon threatens Gilead, the elders beg him to return as their commander. Jephthah negotiates leadership and attempts diplomacy, explaining Ammon’s false claims. Empowered by the Spirit, Jephthah vows rashly before battle that whatever leaves his house first will be offered to the Lord. God grants victory, but his daughter greets him, leading to heartbreaking consequences. The chapter warns about foolish vows and the pain of spiritual instability.
