Joshua blesses the eastern tribes and sends them home. They build a large altar by the Jordan, which the western tribes misunderstand as rebellion. Before going to war, they send a delegation led by Phinehas. The eastern tribes explain that the altar is a witness of shared faith, not for sacrifice. Peace is restored. The chapter teaches humility, communication, and unity. It foreshadows Christ the Mediator who reconciles God’s people.
