John 6 presents Jesus as the Bread of Life, moving from miraculous provision to a deeper call of faith. After feeding the five thousand and walking on water, Jesus challenges the crowd’s motives, shifting their focus from physical satisfaction to eternal life.
His teaching divides the listeners. Many turn away when the cost of discipleship becomes clear. Yet the Twelve remain, recognizing that Jesus alone has the words of eternal life. The chapter reveals that true faith is not sustained by signs alone, but by trusting who Jesus is.
Jesus fulfills the manna from heaven, offering Himself as true sustenance for the world. His broken bread points forward to the cross, where His life will be given so others may live. He is shown as both provider and sacrifice — the only source of lasting life.
John 6
Verse 1 —
He crossed the sea, the crowd drew near
They followed signs — not yet the fear
Five thousand men, the hillside wide
No food in sight as day declined
He asked, “Where can this bread be found?”
Philip counted — came up bound
Andrew spoke of what was there
Five loaves, two fish — not near enough to share
Chorus — What Is Given
Bring what you have — though it seems small
Placed in His hands, it’s enough for all
What cannot feed by human sight
Becomes abundance in His light
Verse 2 — Bread Multiplied
He gave thanks — the bread was passed
Each one ate — till filled at last
Leftovers gathered — twelve baskets full
Nothing wasted — nothing pulled
They said, “The Prophet has arrived!”
They sought a king — He slipped aside
Verse 3 — Upon the Sea
Night fell fast, the boat pushed through
The wind rose hard — the waters grew
They saw Him walk where waves had been
Fear took hold — then heard Him speak
“It is I — do not fear”
The sea grew calm — the shore was near
Chorus — Do Not Fear
When storms rise up and sight is lost
He walks the deep — whatever the cost
The voice that spoke the world to be
Still speaks peace across the sea
Verse 4 — Why Do You Seek Me?
They found Him on the other side
He said, “You seek Me satisfied
Not for truth — but for the bread
That filled your hands and left you fed
Do not work for food that fades
But for the gift that heaven gave”
Verse 5 —
They spoke of manna long ago
He said, “That bread did not bestow
Life eternal — hear Me now
The Bread of Life is standing proud
Who comes to Me will never starve
Who trusts in Me will not be parched”
Chorus — Bread of Life
I am the Bread from heaven sent
Life for the world — My flesh is meant
Whoever eats, whoever believes
Will live through Me — eternally
Verse 6 —
They said, “These words — too sharp, too strange
Who can bear this costly claim?”
He said, “The flesh gives nothing here
The Spirit gives what’s true and clear
Some will turn and walk away”
And many did — that very day
Verse 7 —
He turned to twelve and softly said
“Will you go like those who fled?”
Peter spoke with broken breath
“Where would we go? You speak of life and death
You are the Holy One of God”
They stayed — though roads grew hard
Final Chorus — Words of Life
Not all who eat will truly stay
Not all who see will choose the way
But those who trust — through doubt and cost
Find living bread where none is lost
Outro
Some sought bread — some found the Son
The feast remains — the choice still comes
