John 3 centers on new birth — not as moral improvement, but as spiritual transformation. Jesus teaches Nicodemus that entrance into God’s kingdom requires being born “from above,” by the Spirit. Human effort, knowledge, or status cannot achieve this rebirth.
Jesus points forward to His crucifixion, comparing it to the serpent lifted in the wilderness. Salvation comes not by achievement, but by looking in faith. The chapter closes with John the Baptist’s joyful surrender, affirming that Jesus is the bridegroom from heaven, and that true ministry rejoices in His increase.
Jesus reveals Himself as the Son of Man who must be lifted up, the fulfillment of Israel’s deliverance story, and the only source of eternal life. He is both the Light that exposes and the Savior who rescues. New birth, new covenant, and new life flow entirely from Him.

Full Song Lyrics
Verse 1 — By Night
There was a man of honored name
Nicodemus — learned, trained
A ruler, teacher, known and seen
Yet he came by night unseen
He said, “Rabbi, we know You’re sent
God is near where You are present
No one does the signs You show
Unless God walks where You go”
Verse 2 — You Must Be Born Again
Jesus answered, firm and plain
“To see the kingdom — you must change
Not from flesh, not lineage
But born again — a second breath”
“How can old bones start anew?
Enter the womb?” — the question grew
Jesus said, “You do not see
What Spirit birth is meant to be”
Chorus — Born From Above
Born not of water alone
But Spirit-given, God-bestowed
The wind blows where it wills and goes
You hear the sound — but not its roads
Verse 3 — Earth and Heaven
“Flesh gives flesh — it cannot rise
Spirit gives what never dies
Do not marvel — do not fear
You must be born from heaven here
You are Israel’s teacher still
Yet these words escape your will
If earthly things you can’t receive
How will heavenly things be believed?”
Verse 4 — Lifted Up
“As Moses raised the serpent high
So must the Son of Man be raised
That all who look and truly trust
Will live — though dust returns to dust”
Chorus — God So Loved
For God so loved the world this way
He gave His Son — not held away
That all who trust and all who believe
Will not be lost — but truly live
Verse 5 — Not to Condemn
He did not come to judge or crush
But save the world with mercy’s touch
Condemnation already stands
For those who turn from light to sand
Light has come — the choice is clear
Some love dark, some draw near
Truth walks into open sight
Those who live it come to light
Verse 6 — The Friend of the Bridegroom
John was teaching by the stream
When questions rose from jealous men
“Rabbi, the crowds now follow Him”
John smiled soft and answered then
“A man receives what heaven gives
The bridegroom comes — the friend still lives
My joy is full, my task complete
He must rise — I must decrease”
Final Chorus — From Above
The One from heaven speaks what’s true
Above all things — above all views
Whoever trusts the Son will see
Eternal life — eternally
Outro
Light has come — the door stands wide
New birth waits on the other side
