John 21 records a post-resurrection appearance by the Sea of Galilee. The disciples return to fishing but catch nothing until Jesus directs them. The miraculous catch recalls their original calling.
Jesus restores Peter through three questions of love, mirroring Peter’s three denials. He commissions him to shepherd the flock and foretells the cost of discipleship. The chapter closes with a call to faithful obedience and a reminder that the testimony recorded is true.
The miraculous catch recalls Jesus’ original call and shows continued authority. The breakfast by the fire mirrors the fire where Peter denied Him — now transformed into restoration. The prophecy of Peter’s death foreshadows the cost of following Christ, while the open-ended close reminds readers that Jesus’ works continue beyond the page.

Verse 1 — Back to the Nets
By the Sea of Galilee
Simon Peter said, “I’m going fishing.”
Six went out and cast all night,
But caught no fish by morning light.
At dawn a figure stood ashore,
Unrecognized upon the shore.
“Children, have you caught?” He said.
They answered back, “No fish, no bread.”
Chorus — Cast the Net
“Cast the net on the other side.”
They obeyed — the catch was wide.
So many fish the nets strained tight,
Morning broke with sudden light.
Verse 2 — It Is the Lord
John looked hard and then he knew,
“It is the Lord!” — the words rang true.
Peter wrapped his coat around
And plunged into the water’s sound.
The boat came in with heavy net,
One hundred fifty-three were set.
Yet though so many filled the line,
The net was whole — not torn in kind.
Verse 3 — Breakfast by the Fire
On the shore a fire burned,
Bread and fish already turned.
“Bring some of what you’ve caught,” He said.
They gathered close and broke the bread.
None dared ask who stood before —
They knew the One upon that shore.
Chorus — Come and Eat
“Come and eat,” the Shepherd spoke,
Grace was served beside the smoke.
The risen Lord in morning light
Restored what failed in darkest night.
Verse 4 — Do You Love Me?
When the meal was finally done,
Jesus turned to Simon then.
“Simon, son of John,” He said,
“Do you love Me more than these?”
“Yes, Lord — You know my heart is Yours.”
“Then feed My lambs — tend My sheep.”
Again He asked — again reply,
A third time now — tears in his eyes.
“Lord, You know all things inside.
You know I love You.” — humbled pride.
Chorus — Feed My Sheep
Feed My sheep, walk My way.
Love is proved in how you stay.
When you were young you chose your road,
When you are old — another holds.
Verse 5 — Follow Me
He spoke of days that lay ahead,
Of stretched-out hands and paths of dread.
Then simply said what still must be:
“Follow Me.” — no mystery.
Peter turned and asked once more,
“What about him?” — the friend he saw.
“If I will he remain till then,
What is that to you, My friend?
You — follow Me.”
Final Chorus — The Call Remains
Not compare, not question fate,
But walk the road that love creates.
The Shepherd calls — the path is clear,
Follow close — He still is near.
Outro — Written So You Know
This disciple saw these things,
And wrote them down — what truth brings.
The world itself could not contain
All the works in Jesus’ name.
