John 20 records the resurrection of Jesus. Mary Magdalene discovers the empty tomb and becomes the first witness to the risen Christ. Peter and the beloved disciple confirm the empty grave.
Jesus appears to the disciples, offering peace and commissioning them. Thomas moves from doubt to confession when he encounters the risen Lord. The chapter concludes with John’s purpose statement: these things are written so that readers may believe and have life in His name.
The resurrection fulfills Jesus’ predictions and confirms His authority over death. The calling of Mary by name reflects the Good Shepherd imagery. The breathing upon the disciples anticipates Pentecost. Thomas’ confession declares Jesus openly as Lord and God.

Full Song Lyrics
Verse 1 — Early While It Was Dark
Early while the sky was gray,
Mary came at break of day.
The stone was moved — the tomb laid bare,
The body gone — no one there.
She ran to Peter, breath undone,
“They’ve taken Him — the Lord is gone!”
Verse 2 — Running to the Tomb
Peter ran, the other too,
Footsteps racing toward the truth.
The linen cloth lay folded there,
The face cloth set with careful care.
They saw the place where He had lain,
Not stolen — something had changed.
They went back home with hearts unsure,
The meaning still not fully sure.
Chorus — The Stone Rolled Away
The stone was moved, the grave undone,
But they did not yet see what God had done.
The promise stood before their eyes,
Yet faith was slow to realize.
Verse 3 — Why Are You Weeping?
Mary stayed and wept outside,
Grief still heavy in her eyes.
She looked within — two angels there,
“Why do you weep?” they gently shared.
“They’ve taken Him — I do not know.”
She turned — another standing so.
Verse 4 — Mary
“Woman, why these tears you cry?
Whom do you seek?” He asked nearby.
Thinking Him the gardener still,
“Tell me where — I’ll take Him.”
Then one word broke the dark apart —
“Mary.” — spoken to her heart.
Chorus — Rabboni
She turned and cried, “Teacher!”
Grief gave way — the light came near.
“Do not cling — I go above,
Tell My brothers what you’ve known.”
Verse 5 — Peace Be With You
That evening doors were locked in fear,
The disciples gathered there.
Suddenly He stood inside,
“Peace be with you,” He replied.
He showed His hands, He showed His side,
Joy replaced what fear had tied.
Chorus — Sent as I Was Sent
“As the Father sent Me forth,
Now I send you to the earth.”
He breathed on them — a sign begun,
“Receive the Spirit — work to come.”
Verse 6 — Thomas Doubts
Thomas heard but would not yield,
“Unless I see the wounds revealed,
Unless I touch — I will not say.”
Eight days passed — He came that way.
“Peace be with you,” once again,
“Thomas, place your hand within.”
Verse 7 — My Lord and My God
Thomas fell with opened eyes,
“My Lord, my God,” his faithful cry.
“Blessed are those who have not seen,
Yet believe what stands unseen.”
Final Chorus — That You May Believe
These signs are written so you may
Believe in Him — the Truth, the Way.
That by believing you will live,
Life in His Name — forever given.
Outro
The grave stands empty, death undone.
The risen Lord — the living Son.
