John 13 begins Jesus’ final hours with His disciples. Knowing His authority and His coming death, Jesus demonstrates love through humble service by washing their feet. He teaches that true leadership in God’s kingdom is marked by self-giving love.
The chapter also reveals betrayal. Judas departs into the night, while Jesus commands the remaining disciples to love one another as He has loved them. This love will become the defining mark of His followers.
Jesus’ washing of the disciples’ feet points to the greater cleansing that will come through the cross. His willingness to serve anticipates His sacrificial death. The command to love as He loves foreshadows the ultimate act of love He will display at Calvary.

Full Song Lyrics
Verse 1 — Before the Feast
Before the Passover drew near
Jesus knew His hour was here
The Father placed all things His way
From God He came — to God He’d stay
He loved His own — not halfway through
But loved them fully — to the end, true
Verse 2 — The Towel and Basin
They gathered round the evening meal
No one moved — the dust stayed real
So Jesus rose and laid aside
His outer robe — His rightful pride
He took a towel, a servant’s place
Began to wash each weary face
The Lord of all bent low to clean
What none believed should ever be
Chorus — If I Do Not Wash You
Peter said, “Not my feet — no way”
Jesus answered him that day
“If I do not wash you through
You have no share — no part with Me”
Verse 3 — Washed and Clean
Peter said, “Then hands and head!”
Jesus smiled at what he said
“You are clean — though not each one”
For He knew what would be done
Not all who sat were truly His
One heart planned what love forbids
Chorus — You Are Clean
Not by water — not by skin
But by the word that cleans within
Still the table held them all
Grace was there — before the fall
Verse 4 — An Example Given
When He had washed them — robe restored
He said, “You know what I’ve just shown
If I — your Lord — have served this way
You must love likewise every day
No servant stands above his king
No messenger outruns who sent him”
Verse 5 — Betrayal Named
“He who shares My bread tonight
Lifts his heel against the light”
The room grew still — hearts unsure
“Lord, is it I?” each voice implored
He dipped the bread — to Judas’ hand
“Do quickly what you’ve planned”
Chorus — And It Was Night
He took the bread — then turned away
The door shut fast — the night held sway
Light remained — but shadows grew
The hour moved — betrayal true
Verse 6 — Love Commanded
Jesus said, “Now glory comes
The Son of Man — the Father’s One
Love one another as I’ve loved you
This is the mark the world will view
Not signs alone — not words displayed
But love lived out — the debt I paid”
Final Chorus — Love to the End
As I have loved — you love the same
Lay down pride — lay down your name
By this the world will surely see
You walk in love — and follow Me
Outro
The night had come — the path was set
Love stood firm — no retreat yet
