John 11 records the raising of Lazarus, revealing Jesus’ authority over death itself. Though He loves Lazarus and his sisters, Jesus delays — showing that divine love is not rushed and that greater glory is sometimes revealed through waiting.
Jesus meets grief honestly, weeping with those who mourn, while also declaring Himself to be the resurrection and the life. The miracle leads many to believe, but it also solidifies opposition against Him, setting the stage for the cross.
Jesus reveals Himself as Lord over life and death, anticipating His own resurrection. Lazarus’ return points forward to the greater victory over the grave. The stone rolled away, the voice that calls the dead, and the unbinding all foreshadow Christ’s triumph and the freedom He brings.

Full Song Lyrics
Verse 1 — The Message
There was a man in Bethany
Lazarus — loved dearly
His sisters sent a message fast
“Lord, the one You love won’t last”
When Jesus heard, He did not run
He said, “This sickness isn’t done
In death, God’s glory will be shown
So all may see the Father’s Son”
Verse 2 — The Delay
He stayed two days — though love was near
Then said, “The time has come — don’t fear
Our friend sleeps — but I will go
And wake him up from death below”
They said, “If he sleeps, he’ll rise”
Jesus spoke plain before their eyes
“Lazarus is dead — it’s true
I’m glad I was not there for you
So you may see — and truly trust”
Chorus — Let Us Go
The road ahead is dark and steep
But truth is learned where faith runs deep
Thomas said, with broken breath
“Let us go — even to death”
Verse 3 — Martha Runs
When Jesus came, Martha ran
“Lord, if You’d been here — then
My brother would not have died”
Jesus spoke — not brushed aside
“Your brother will rise again”
She said, “At the end — I know when”
Chorus — I Am
I am the resurrection
I am the life — not just a hope ahead
Whoever lives and trusts in Me
Though he die — will live instead
Verse 4 — Do You Believe?
“Do you believe?” He asked her plain
She said, “Yes, Lord — I still remain
You are the Christ — the Son of God
Who comes into this broken world”
Verse 5 — Mary Weeps
Mary fell down where He stood
Tears poured out — misunderstood
“Lord, if You had only stayed…”
The crowd wept too — grief on display
Jesus saw — His spirit stirred
Anger groaned — no softened word
He asked, “Where have you laid his frame?”
They said, “Come see” — and Jesus wept
Chorus — Jesus Wept
He did not turn His face away
He stepped into our grief that day
The God of life stood by the grave
And wept with those He came to save
Verse 6 — At the Tomb
They came to where the stone was sealed
Four days gone — the truth revealed
Martha said, “The smell has come”
He said, “Did I not say, My one?
If you believe — you’ll see God’s grace”
They rolled the stone away from place
Verse 7 — Come Out
He looked to heaven — thanked the Father
Spoke so all would hear and gather
“Lazarus — come out!” He cried
The dead man stood — grave clothes tied
“Unbind him now — let him go”
Life returned — the grave let go
Final Chorus — Life Revealed
Death obeys the voice of God
The grave releases when He calls
What hope delayed — now stands alive
The Son has power — the dead arise
Outro
Some believed — some turned away
The cross grew nearer that day
