Job 15 — Eliphaz Accuses Job of Arrogance and Doubles Down on Wrong Theology

Eliphaz returns, this time more forcefully. He accuses Job of arrogance, undermining fear of God, and rejecting wise counsel. Eliphaz claims that wicked people suffer terrifying judgments: hunger, ruin, fear, and darkness. While some of his descriptions are true of the wicked, his mistake is assuming Job fits that category. Eliphaz relies entirely on experience and tradition but fails to consider God’s unique purposes in Job’s trial. This chapter teaches that human wisdom— even when containing some truth—can be dangerous when misapplied. Eliphaz’s condemnation reveals how easily people assume suffering must equal guilt.
