Jeremiah 52 serves as a historical appendix, carefully recording the fall of Jerusalem and confirming the fulfillment of Jeremiah’s prophecies. The chapter recounts the siege, Zedekiah’s capture and punishment, the destruction of the temple, and the exile of the people — all with factual precision.
The removal of the temple’s bronze furnishings underscores the magnitude of loss. Sacred objects are cataloged not to glorify destruction, but to remember what was taken and why. Even judgment is measured, not chaotic.
The chapter closes with an unexpected note of mercy: the release and elevation of King Jehoiachin in Babylon. Though small, this act signals that God has not abandoned David’s line nor His covenant purposes.
Jeremiah 52 teaches that history itself becomes a witness to God’s word. Judgment fulfills prophecy — and mercy quietly preserves hope for what comes next.
As It Was Written” — Jeremiah 52
Verse 1 — The Siege Remembered
Zedekiah reigned, the ninth year came
The siege pressed hard in hunger and flame
Till bread ran out, the city broke
The walls gave way beneath the yoke
By night the king fled through the gate
But judgment waited — it was late
They caught him on the plains below
To Riblah bound… the end to know
Chorus — The Word Came True
As it was spoken, so it stood
Every warning understood
Time ran out, the truth remained
What God declared… was not delayed
The word was sure, the end was near
Fulfilled in fire, loss, and fear
Verse 2 — The King’s Fall
His sons were slain before his eyes
Then sight was taken — final cries
Bound in bronze to Babylon
A crown erased, the kingdom gone
No riddle now, no hidden line
The prophet’s word matched place and time
What mercy urged, what truth foretold
Stood written plain… in sorrow told
Chorus — The City Burned
The house of God, the palace halls
The homes of great and humble walls
All burned beneath the captain’s hand
The city turned to ash and sand
The sound of praise, the altar’s flame
Now smoke and ruin… marked the name
Bridge — The Bronze Removed
The pillars stood — then broken down
The sea, the stands, the crafted crown
Bronze beyond all weight to tell
Carried off… where tears would dwell
The basins, forks, and bowls of gold
What Solomon once formed of old
All taken far from Zion’s gate
A glory gone… a measured fate
Verse 3 — The People Taken
Some were left — the poorest few
To tend the land, to start anew
The rest were led in counted lines
By years, by kings, by numbered times
The priests and guards, the city’s might
Were struck beneath the conqueror’s sight
The leaders fell, the voices ceased
The land lay still… the war released
Chorus — Exile Counted
So many taken, so many named
A nation marked, a people shamed
Yet even loss was measured here
By number, time, and sovereign care
God kept account — not one forgot
Even in chains… He lost them not
Verse 4 — A Lifted Head
Years rolled on in foreign lands
Till favor moved by unseen hands
Jehoiachin from prison rose
A captive freed, new mercy shows
His head was lifted, chains undone
He ate with kings till days were done
A daily portion, favor shown
A sign of hope… though still unknown
Final Chorus — Hope Remains
Though thrones are lost and temples fall
The Lord still reigns beyond it all
In counted years, in promised days
He lifts the low, He makes a way
The story ends — but not the plan
God’s word stands firm…
