Jeremiah 32 shows hope not as a feeling, but as an action. While Jerusalem is under siege and Jeremiah is imprisoned, God commands him to buy a field in Anathoth. The purchase makes no sense economically or politically — yet that is precisely the point.
By obeying, Jeremiah demonstrates faith in God’s promise of restoration. The sealed deed stored in a clay jar becomes a tangible sign that exile is not the end. Though judgment is real and unavoidable, it is not final.
Jeremiah’s prayer acknowledges God’s power, justice, and the severity of the present crisis. God’s response confirms both sides of the truth: judgment for sin, and a future filled with restoration, security, and joy. God promises to gather His people, give them one heart, and rejoice in doing them good.
Jeremiah 32 teaches that true hope acts before circumstances change. Faith invests in God’s future even while standing in ruins.
Buy the Field” — Jeremiah 32
Verse 1 — The City Under Siege
The city groaned beneath the wall
Babylon’s lines were closing in
I sat confined, no way to run
The word of the Lord still came again
Zedekiah reigned, the siege stood fast
Chains on my feet, the future masked
Yet in the darkest present hour
God spoke of deeds beyond the power
Chorus — Hope in the Ground
Buy the field, plant hope in dust
Trust the word when all seems lost
When walls fall down and cities burn
Faith believes the land returns
What eyes can’t see, obedience knows
Hope takes root… and quietly grows
Verse 2 — The Purchase
“Your cousin comes,” the Lord made known
“To sell the land that he owns”
Just as He said, the moment came
Hanamel spoke the very name
I weighed the silver, signed the deed
Both sealed and open — witness agreed
I placed the scrolls in earthen clay
“For many days,” the Lord did say
Chorus — Houses Will Return
Houses, fields, and vineyards too
Will once again be bought by you
Though now the land is lost to sight
I hold its future in My might
The deed is kept, the promise sure
What God declares will long endure
Bridge — Jeremiah’s Prayer
Ah, Sovereign Lord, You made the skies
By mighty hand and outstretched might
Nothing is too hard for You
Yet You repay what hearts pursue
You show great love to thousands still
But guilt has weight by righteous will
The siege is real, the city falls
Yet You commanded hope through walls
Verse 3 — God’s Answer
“Is anything too hard for Me?”
The Lord replied — eternally
“I gave this city to the flame
For sins that stained My holy name
Yet hear the word beyond the night
I will gather them by My right
I’ll bring them back, I’ll make them dwell
In peace beneath My covenant well”
Final Chorus — Certain Restoration
I will be their God once more
They’ll be My people as before
One heart, one way I will impart
An everlasting work of heart
I will rejoice to do them good
And plant them here… as I once should
Outro — Faith That Acts
When hope feels thin and futures fail
Faith signs deeds and seals the sale
The God who asks for acts of trust
Builds tomorrow… from today’s dust
