This chapter traces genealogies from Adam to Abraham, then through Abraham’s descendants including Esau’s line. It establishes Israel’s place in the larger human story and shows that God has been guiding history from creation onward. The genealogies affirm God’s covenant faithfulness and the unfolding line through which His promises will come. Christ-Foreshadowing: By tracing humanity from Adam to Abraham, the chapter looks forward to Christ—the promised descendant who fulfills God’s plan for all nations.
Seek the Peace” — Jeremiah 29
Verse 1 — A Letter from the Lord
A letter sent to those carried away
From priests and elders far from home’s embrace
To Babylon’s streets, to foreign ground
The word of the Lord was written down
Not whispers of escape or flight
But truth to live by day and night
Not how to flee the place you’re in
But how to live where God has sent
Chorus — Live Where You Are
Build your houses, settle down
Plant your fields in foreign ground
Take your wives, raise sons and daughters
Life goes on in troubled waters
Seek the peace of where you stay
Pray for it — for you’ll share its way
Verse 2 — Do Not Listen to Lies
Do not listen to the dreams they tell
The prophets who would cast a spell
They promise soon you’ll all return
But they speak lies you’ve yet to learn
I did not send the words they say
They speak from hearts that drift away
False hope feeds a restless soul
But patience keeps the promise whole
Chorus — Seventy Years
When seventy years have run their course
I will return with mercy’s force
I’ll bring you back from distant lands
Fulfill My word by faithful hands
The waiting does not cancel grace
It prepares the time… it sets the place
Bridge — The Famous Promise
For I know the plans I have for you
Plans shaped faithful, plans shaped true
Not to harm, but to restore
A future filled with hope once more
You will call, and I will hear
You will seek, and I am near
When you search with all your heart
You will find Me where you are
Verse 3 — Judgment on False Voices
To those who spoke My name in vain
Who promised peace but preached rebellion
I will answer what they’ve done
Their end will show they were not sent
To Shemaiah who stirred the fear
And turned the people from My word
This is what the Lord decreed
False hope will not be planted seed
Final Chorus — Hope with Roots
Wait with faith, but live with care
Hope is patient, hope is prayer
Not escape, but faithfulness
Not quick relief, but righteousness
I am with you even here
The exile ends… but not in fear
Outro — Found in the Waiting
You will seek Me, you will find
Not when time is left behind
But in the waiting, in the stay
I am God… and I will stay
