James begins with a prophetic warning to the oppressive rich who hoard wealth and exploit workers. Their injustice cries out before the Lord of Hosts. Earthly comfort cannot shield them from divine accountability.
Believers under pressure are urged to be patient like farmers awaiting rain. The Lord’s coming is near. The prophets and Job demonstrate endurance anchored in God’s compassion.
James emphasizes integrity in speech and then highlights the power of prayer. In suffering, pray. In joy, sing. In sickness, call the elders. Confession and prayer bring restoration. Elijah, a human like us, prayed and heaven responded.
The letter closes with a call to restore wanderers — turning someone back rescues from death and covers sin.
Jesus confronted injustice without fear. He endured suffering with patience. He is the coming Judge at the door. He is compassionate and merciful. He intercedes as the righteous One whose prayer avails much. He seeks and restores wandering sheep.
James 5 — “Until He Comes”
James 5
Verse 1
Come now, you rich who trust in gain,
Weep for what your wealth can’t save.
Gold will rust and clothes decay,
Treasures hoarded fade away.
Wages held with tightened hand
Cry aloud across the land.
Fields you stripped and lives you pressed
Testify against your rest.
Chorus
Be patient, brothers, till He comes,
Like farmer waiting for the sun.
Early rain and latter fall —
The Lord is near above it all.
Verse 2
You have lived in pleasure’s flame,
Fattened hearts in comfort’s name.
You condemned the righteous one —
Yet heaven hears what you have done.
So stand firm and do not shake,
The Judge is at the door awake.
Do not grumble one at another —
Hold your tongue, protect your brother.
Pre-Chorus
Think of prophets who endured,
Job whose patience was assured.
Verse 3
We count them blessed who suffered long,
Faithful when the road was wrong.
You have seen the Lord’s intent —
Compassion strong and mercy sent.
Let your “yes” be simply yes,
And your “no” be no — no less.
Truth should not require an oath —
Steady words reflect your growth.
Bridge — The Power of Prayer
Is anyone among you worn?
Let him pray till strength is born.
Is anyone in joy today?
Let him sing and give Him praise.
Call the elders, oil and prayer,
Faith will lift the heavy care.
If there’s sin, let it be confessed —
Healing flows where hearts are pressed.
Elijah prayed and skies were sealed,
Again he prayed — the rain was healed.
Righteous prayer with fervent plea
Moves what seems immovable to be.
Final Chorus
If one wanders from the way,
Bring them back before they stray.
Turn a sinner, rescue breath —
Love can cover paths of death.
Be patient, faithful, stand and pray —
The Lord is near. He’s on His way.
