Isaiah 8 Teaching Notes / Biblical Summary

Isaiah warns of coming invasion due to Judah’s unbelief. Fear of human threats replaces fear of God. Yet God promises to be a sanctuary for those who trust Him, even as He becomes a stumbling stone to the unfaithful.

Christ-Foreshadowing

Christ becomes both the cornerstone for believers and the stumbling stone for those who reject Him. 

Isaiah 8 — “God With Us, Even Here”

Song Lyrics

Verse 1

The Lord said, “Write it plain and wide,

So all can read what’s set inside.”

A child was named, a sign was born,

Swift the spoil, the plunder torn.

Before his voice could name his own,

The threats you fear would be overthrown.

The northern kings, their power spent,

Their moment gone, their season bent.

Chorus

Do not call conspiracy what fear proclaims,

Do not tremble at borrowed flames.

The Lord of hosts—Him alone revere,

He is our fear, our shelter here.

God is with us, hold the line,

Trust His word in troubled time.

You rejected waters flowing slow,

Sought raging rivers you thought you’d know.

Assyria rose like a flooding tide,

Swept the land, reached Zion’s side.

Yet even then, the promise stood,

Immanuel still meant God is good.

Though waters rise and borders shake,

The Lord remains—no vow will break.

“Seek the dead, the stars, the sky,”

To the teaching, to the word—

If no light speaks, it’s not the Lord.

I will wait for the Lord who hides His face,

Hope in Him, rest in grace.

Children signs in Israel stand,

From the Lord of heaven’s hand.

When dread surrounds and night draws near,

The Lord our God is still our fear.

But truth that stands when nations rise.

A tested word that will endure.
