Isaiah 23 Teaching Notes / Biblical Summary

The fall of Tyre exposes the fragility of economic power. Wealth and trade cannot secure permanence. Yet Tyre’s future restoration points toward redemption beyond judgment.

Christ-Foreshadowing

Christ redeems what is broken and brings lasting value beyond earthly wealth.

Isaiah 23 — “When Wealth Fails”

Verse 1

Wail, O ships of distant seas,

Your harbor’s gone, your certainty.

The trading queen, so rich, so wide,

Stands silent now—her boast denied.

From coast to coast her profit rang,

Kings grew rich from all she sang.

But gold can’t guard, nor commerce save,

When God decides to humble pride.

Chorus

When wealth fails and markets fall,

When riches cannot stand the call,

Know this truth the ages prove:

No treasure saves apart from You.

The Lord alone brings lasting gain,

All else will fade, return to dust again.

Verse 2

Sidon hears, the coastlands shake,

Merchants stunned at what they’ve lost and made.

What once brought joy now brings them shame,

The crown is gone, the name’s a name.

God planned this fall, this breaking through,

To strip the pride from what we do.

What men exalted, trusted, praised,

Is brought low by the Lord’s own ways.

Chorus

When wealth fails and markets fall,

When riches cannot stand the call,

Know this truth the ages prove:

No treasure saves apart from You.

The Lord alone brings lasting gain,

All else will fade, return to dust again.

Bridge

Seventy years of silent trade,

Forgotten songs, a humbled stage.

Then Tyre returns—but not the same,

No longer living for her name.

Final Chorus

What once was sold for selfish gain

Will one day serve the Lord’s domain.

Her profit set apart, made clean,

For those who dwell before the King.

Not hoarded gold nor endless store—

But daily bread forevermore.

Outro

When wealth bows low and hearts are stirred…

Even gain can serve the Lord.
