Isaiah 22 Teaching Notes / Biblical Summary

Jerusalem is rebuked for celebrating rather than repenting in the face of judgment. Leaders are condemned for self-reliance and pride. God removes unfaithful leadership and appoints a faithful steward.

Christ-Foreshadowing

Christ is the faithful steward who holds true authority and opens what no one can shut.

Song Lyrics (Combined + Clear)

Verse 1

What’s happening here, O city of sight?

Why laughter on rooftops in fearful night?

You’re called to see, yet vision’s blurred,

You hear the noise but miss the word.

Your leaders fled, your strength gave way,

Captured without a fight that day.

The danger came, the warning rang—

But hearts stayed light, not broken, bent.

Chorus

You built the walls, you counted stone,

Stored up water, stood alone.

But you did not look to the One

Who formed this place when time begun.

The Lord called out for tears and truth—

You chose your feast, you chose your proof.

Verse 2

You saw the breaches, made them strong,

Planned your escape, prepared all along.

Between the walls the pools were set,

But God the Maker—you forget.

He called for weeping, sackcloth torn,

For humble hearts and pride forlorn.

Instead you said, “Eat, drink today—

Tomorrow comes, so laugh and play.”

Chorus

You built the walls, you counted stone,

Stored up water, stood alone.

But you did not look to the One

Who formed this place when time begun.

The Lord called out for tears and truth—

You chose your feast, you chose your proof.

Bridge

Hear the word the Lord has said:

False security will not be fed.

When fear is faced with hardened cheer,

Unconfessed sin still lingers near.

Verse 3

Now hear the word to Shebna’s name,

Who chased his glory, sought his fame.

You carved your tomb in lofty height,

Sought your honor in your sight.

“I’ll roll you up,” the Lord replies,

“Cast you down before all eyes.”

Your place will fall, your robe be torn,

Another called will be adorned.

Final Chorus

I raise a servant, firm and true,

A steward who will rightly do.

A key entrusted by My hand,

What he opens—will stand.

But even pegs that once held strong

Will fall if weight is carried wrong.

Outro

O Valley of Vision, learn to see:

Walls won’t save—only turning to Me.
