Oracles against Babylon, Edom, and Arabia emphasize watchfulness and uncertainty. Night imagery reflects the unpredictability of judgment and the need for readiness.
Christ calls His people to remain watchful, alert, and faithful as God’s purposes unfold.
Isaiah 21 — “Fallen, Fallen Is Babylon”Song Lyrics
Verse 1 — The Watchman
An oracle from desert seas,
A storm rolls in with violent ease.
From barren lands the riders come,
A vision heavy, night undone.
Terror grips my listening heart,
Pain like birth pangs tears apart.
I tremble as the truth draws near,
What I have heard fills me with fear.
Chorus
Set the watchman on the wall,
Let him speak what he has seen.
When the signal cuts the night,
Truth will stand where lies had been.
Fallen, fallen—Babylon,
All her idols smash and gone.
Verse 2 — Narrator
Prepare the table, watch the door,
Eat and drink—yet danger pours.
“Arise, commanders, oil the shield,”
The feast dissolves, the fate is sealed.
Riders come in measured pace,
Two by two they scan the place.
Then the cry breaks through the gloom,
A verdict carved from heaven’s room.
Chorus
Set the watchman on the wall,
Let him speak what he has seen.
When the signal cuts the night,
Truth will stand where lies had been.
Fallen, fallen—Babylon,
All her idols smash and gone.
Verse 3 — The Watchman
O my people, threshed and worn,
Grain crushed hard by judgment’s storm.
What I heard from hosts above,
I now declare in faithful love.
From Dumah comes a whispered plea:
“Watchman, what remains to see?”
“Morning comes,” the answer cries,
“But night returns—be truly wise.”
Bridge — Narrator
From Tema’s wells to Dedan’s road,
Fugitives stagger, grief their load.
Kedar’s bows will soon be few,
Strength reduced, the boast untrue.
Final Chorus
Watch and wait till light is clear,
Heed the word, the end is near.
Kings will fall and idols cease,
Only God commands release.
What the Lord of hosts has said
Stands forever—truth has led.
Outro
Watchman cries into the night…
Morning comes—but so does night.
