Isaiah 16 Teaching Notes / Biblical Summary

Moab is urged to seek refuge and humility, yet pride prevents repentance. Judgment comes because of arrogance and refusal to submit to God’s rule. Mercy is offered, but rejected.

Christ-Foreshadowing

Christ is the true refuge offered to the nations—humble, righteous, and compassionate—yet often refused due to pride.

Isaiah 16 — “A Throne Established in Mercy”

Song Lyrics

Verse 1

Send the lamb to Zion’s hill,

From desert strongholds, bending will.

Let tribute cross the river wide,

Seek shelter where the just reside.

Like scattered birds, like nests undone,

Moab’s daughters flee and run.

At Arnon’s edge they plead for rest,

A place to hide, a shielded nest.

Chorus

Give counsel now, extend your shade,

Hide the outcast, do not betray.

Let mercy stand where fear has been,

A refuge strong from coming wind.

When ruin falls and pride is torn,

A throne in mercy will be born.

Verse 2

Oppression ends, the spoiler fades,

The trampler leaves the land he flayed.

In faithful love a throne will stand,

Established firm by righteous hand.

One from David’s line will reign,

Judging truth, opposing pain.

Swift for justice, strong in grace,

A king who keeps the helpless safe.

Chorus

Give counsel now, extend your shade,

Hide the outcast, do not betray.

Let mercy stand where fear has been,

A refuge strong from coming wind.

When ruin falls and pride is torn,

A throne in mercy will be born.

Verse 3

We’ve heard the pride of Moab’s heart,

Boastful words that tear apart.

Yet fields once full now weep in rows,

The vines lie cut, the harvest closed.

Gladness gone from fruitful land,

No songs resound where joy once sang.

The winepress waits, but feet don’t tread,

The shout of harvest joy is dead.

Bridge

My heart laments for Moab still,

Like harp that aches against its will.

My soul cries out for Kir and Shear,

For wasted pride and coming fear.

Final Chorus

Within three years the glory fades,

Moab’s strength in ruin laid.

Few remain, brought low and weak,

The boast reduced to fragile speech.

Yet mercy spoke before the fall—

The Lord had warned, and wept for all.

Outro

Judgment stands, yet mercy called…

A throne of grace beyond the fall.
