An oracle of mourning is pronounced over Moab. Cities fall, people flee, and grief fills the land. Isaiah portrays the devastation with compassion, acknowledging human suffering even amid judgment.
Christ grieves over human brokenness and suffering, even while fulfilling God’s righteous purposes.
Isaiah 15 — “A Cry Over Moab”
Song Lyrics
Verse 1
In the night it comes, destruction near,
Ar of Moab falls in fear.
Kir is silenced, walls undone,
Cities fall before the sun.
High places echo cries of pain,
Bald heads, beards shorn in shame.
From every street a grieving sound,
Moab’s pride brought to the ground.
Chorus
Hear the cry rise from the land,
Tears like rivers, hearts unmanned.
Joy is gone, the songs are stilled,
Every boast, every hope is killed.
From town to town the weeping flows—
A nation bent beneath its woes.
Verse 2
They flee to Zoar, voices shake,
Eglath Shelishiyah breaks.
Heshbon, Elealeh cry aloud,
Even Jahaz weeps out proud.
Soldiers tremble, courage drained,
Every strength is bent by pain.
From Luhith’s slope they climb and weep,
Down Horonaim lament runs deep.
Chorus
Hear the cry rise from the land,
Tears like rivers, hearts unmanned.
Joy is gone, the songs are stilled,
Every boast, every hope is killed.
From town to town the weeping flows—
A nation bent beneath its woes.
Verse 3
Waters fail where life once grew,
Nimrim’s fields are burned and blue.
Grass is gone, the harvest bare,
Nothing green is living there.
They carry wealth they cannot keep,
Across the ravines they drag their grief.
The cry resounds beyond the border line,
Even Eglaim hears their cry.
Bridge
My heart laments for Moab’s pain,
Like mournful harp in sorrow’s strain.
Judgment comes, yet tears still fall—
The Lord takes note of one and all.
Final Chorus
From Dimon’s streams to desert floor,
Blood and grief will speak once more.
More awaits where pride has led,
The lion stalks where hope has fled.
O land once strong, now brought so low,
The cost of trust in false hope shows.
Outro
A cry in the night, a land laid bare…
Judgment falls, yet God still cares.
