Isaiah describes Israel’s restoration and Babylon’s humiliation. The once-feared oppressor is mocked in death, revealing the emptiness of worldly power. Pride leads to downfall, and human rulers who exalt themselves will not endure.
The chapter underscores God’s sovereignty over kings and nations.
Christ reigns in humility, contrasting the self-exalting rulers of the world. His kingdom is established not by oppression, but by righteousness and truth.
Isaiah 14 — “How You Have Fallen”
Song Lyrics
Verse 1
The Lord will show His mercy still,
Choose His people, keep His will.
Strangers join and find a place,
Rest replaces endless chase.
The captor’s rod will lose its hold,
The oppressor’s tale at last is told.
From weary chains, the people rise,
Freedom sung before all eyes.
Chorus
How the tyrant’s power ends,
Broken staff, no fear remains.
The Lord brings rest to battered land,
Justice spoken by His hand.
The earth is quiet, songs increase—
When pride is crushed, the weary breathe.
Verse 2
Take up the taunt against the king,
The one who ruled with cruel decree:
“Your fury’s gone, your rule is through,
The world once crushed now rests from you.”
Cypresses and cedars sing,
“No axe returns, no tyrant king.”
Even Sheol stirs below,
As fallen crowns are forced to know.
Chorus
How the tyrant’s power ends,
Broken staff, no fear remains.
The Lord brings rest to battered land,
Justice spoken by His hand.
The earth is quiet, songs increase—
When pride is crushed, the weary breathe.
Verse 3
You said, “I’ll climb the heavens’ height,
Set my throne in borrowed light.
I’ll rise above the stars of God,
Make myself the Most High’s fraud.”
But down you fall to deepest pit,
A spectacle the nations sit.
“Is this the man who shook the earth,
Who made the kingdoms know his worth?”
Bridge
Your pomp descends, your music dies,
Maggots spread where glory lies.
No royal grave, no honored rest,
The proud exposed, the truth confessed.
Final Chorus
The Lord has sworn, His word is sure,
What He has planned will still endure.
No hand can stop what God decrees,
No pride can halt His purposes.
From Babylon to every throne,
The Lord alone is over all.
Outro
The boast is stilled, the earth at peace…
The Lord of hosts will not release.
