Isaiah 10 Teaching Notes / Biblical Summary

Assyria is used as God’s instrument of judgment, yet is condemned for arrogance. God limits Assyria’s power and promises to preserve a faithful remnant.

Christ-Foreshadowing

Christ preserves the remnant and reigns humbly, unlike the proud rulers of this world.

Isaiah 10 — “The Axe and the Remnant”

Song Lyrics

Verse 1

Woe to the laws that crush the weak,

Decrees that steal the poor their keep.

Widows robbed, the fatherless shamed,

Power used for selfish gain.

What will you do when judgment comes,

When help is far and none will run?

To whom will pride and wealth now flee,

When only truth stands openly?

Chorus

The Lord is Judge of every throne,

No power rules the world alone.

He lifts, He humbles, weighs the hand,

All nations serve His sovereign plan.

Though rulers boast and borders bend,

God still preserves a faithful remnant.

Verse 2

Assyria rose by God’s own word,

A rod of anger, judgment stirred.

Sent against a faithless land,

To trample pride by God’s command.

But arrogance filled Assyria’s breath,

“I conquered all,” their boasting said.

An axe that brags against the hand,

A saw that scorns the craftsman’s plan.

Chorus

The Lord is Judge of every throne,

No power rules the world alone.

He lifts, He humbles, weighs the hand,

All nations serve His sovereign plan.

Though rulers boast and borders bend,

God still preserves a faithful remnant.

Verse 3

The Holy One will turn the flame,

Consume the proud, expose their name.

Their glory fades like sickened tree,

Their strength reduced to scarcity.

Yet Israel, do not be afraid,

Though pressed by force, though dismayed.

A remnant will return once more,

Resting on the Lord secure.

Bridge

The yoke will break, the burden fall,

Because of oil that covers all.

From Jesse’s line, a promise grows,

A future King the Spirit knows.

Final Chorus

O people saved by mercy’s hand,

Trust not in force or foreign land.

The Lord of hosts has sworn this word:

His purpose stands, His will is sure.

From judgment’s fire to hope reborn,

A remnant lives, refined, restored.

Outro

The axe will fall, the boast be still…

The Lord alone fulfills His will.
