The main point: we have a High Priest seated in heaven. Earthly tabernacle worship was a copy of heavenly reality. Quoting Jeremiah 31, Hebrews declares the New Covenant: God’s law written on hearts, personal knowledge of God, complete forgiveness of sins. The first covenant is now obsolete. The new covenant transforms from within.
Hebrews 8 — “A Better Covenant”
Hebrews 8
Verse 1
Here is the point we’re meant to see —
We have a High Priest presently,
Seated at the Majesty’s side,
In heaven’s holy place inside.
Not in a tent by human hand,
Not in a shadowed earthly stand,
But in the true and greater room
Where eternal mercies bloom.
Pre-Chorus
Every priest must bring a gift,
An offering to atone and lift.
But if He served on earth below,
The law would not receive Him so.
Chorus
A better covenant now has come,
Established by the faithful Son.
Not written only stone to hold,
But carved on hearts as prophets told.
The former was a shadow cast —
The new is built to truly last.
Verse 2
The earthly priests in patterns serve,
Copies shaped by heaven’s curve.
Moses saw upon the mount
The model heaven would account.
If the first had been complete,
No second covenant we’d seek.
But finding fault within the people,
God declared through prophet’s sequel:
Verse 3
“The days are coming,” so He said,
“A new covenant will be spread.
Not like the one they broke before,
Though I had led them safely ashore.
My law I’ll write upon their heart,
Not tablets cold and set apart.
I will be their God indeed,
And they shall know Me — freed.”
Bridge
No longer teaching from without,
For all will know Me, none in doubt.
From least to great My mercy flows,
Their sins remembered no one knows.
Final Chorus
In calling this covenant new,
The former fades from view.
What once grew old and worn by time
Now gives way to grace divine.
Seated Priest, fulfilled decree —
The better covenant stands in Thee.
