Hebrews 7 — The Eternal Priesthood

Hebrews 7 explains Melchizedek — king of righteousness and peace — as a type of Christ. Because Abraham honored him, and Levi descended from Abraham, the Melchizedek priesthood is shown superior to the Levitical system. Psalm 110 predicted a new priest “forever.” Since Jesus is from Judah, the priesthood — and therefore covenant — has changed. Unlike mortal priests, Jesus lives forever, intercedes continually, and offered Himself once for all. His priesthood is permanent and perfect.

Hebrews 7 — “A Better Priest”

Hebrews 7

Verse 1

Long before the law was given,

Before Mount Sinai shook with heaven,

A king stepped out from Salem’s line —

Priest of God Most High divine.

Melchizedek — no recorded birth,

No listed end upon the earth.

King of righteousness by name,

King of peace in Salem’s reign.

Pre-Chorus

Abraham bowed and gave a tenth,

Honored him with reverent strength.

Even Levi, yet unborn,

Paid through Abraham that morn.

Chorus

A better priest, a different line,

Not by ancestry’s design.

Not by law of fleshly claim —

But by endless life proclaimed.

Jesus stands where shadows cease,

Our eternal King of Peace.

Verse 2

If perfection came through law,

Why another priest we saw?

Why speak of one yet still to rise

Not from Aaron’s sacrifice?

When priesthood changes, law must too —

A better covenant comes into view.

From Judah’s tribe the Savior came,

Where Moses never spoke that name.

Verse 3

The former priests were many made,

Because by death their work would fade.

But He remains — death overcome —

His priesthood rests on endless Son.

Able fully, able always,

Saving those who seek His face.

Living still to intercede —

Our High Priest in time of need.

Bridge

Holy, innocent, unstained,

Separate from sinners’ stain.

Exalted high above the skies,

No daily sacrifice required.

Once for all Himself He gave,

Perfect Lamb the law could not save.

Appointed by an oath divine —

A Son forever, not confined.

Final Chorus

A better hope, a better way,

A better covenant today.

Not weakness bound in mortal frame —

But power of everlasting Name.

Jesus reigns where priests once stood,

Our perfect, final, highest good.
