Hebrews 2 — The Warning and the Incarnation

Because Jesus is supreme, drifting from Him is dangerous. Hebrews 2 warns against neglecting so great a salvation. The chapter then explains why the exalted Son became temporarily “lower than angels.” Quoting Psalm 8, it reminds us that humanity was created to rule, yet we do not yet see all things subjected. But we see Jesus — crowned through suffering. He took on flesh and blood to destroy the devil’s power, free those enslaved by fear of death, and become a merciful and faithful High Priest. Supremacy here is expressed through solidarity: the Son became our brother to redeem us from within our condition.

Hebrews 2 — “Do Not Drift”

Verse 1

If angels’ words held weight and fire,

If law required what justice required,

How shall we escape the fall

If we ignore salvation’s call?

Not rumor passed from distant lands,

But truth confirmed by wounded hands.

The Lord Himself first spoke it clear,

And heaven bore witness — “It is here.”

Pre-Chorus

Do not drift on quiet seas,

Slow surrender, subtle ease.

Anchors loosened little by little

Hearts grow cold in what seems little.

Chorus

Do not drift from glory revealed,

From wounds that bled and love that healed.

Do not turn from mercy’s sound —

The greater Word has now been found.

Hold fast, hold near,

Salvation stands — the Son is here.

Verse 2

What is man that You would see him?

Dust and breath — yet crowned to be him.

Made lower than angels for a span,

Yet destined for dominion’s plan.

But we don’t see all restored,

Broken earth still scarred and torn.

Yet we see Jesus — humbled low,

Crowned through suffering, crowned through woe.

Verse 3

For by God’s grace He tasted death,

Entered darkness, gave His breath.

That through dying He might break

The tyrant’s grip, the serpent’s stake.

Fear of death once chained our soul,

Bondage wrapped in hidden control.

But He took flesh and blood like ours,

To crush the fear that ruled our hours.

Bridge

He is not ashamed to call us kin,

Brothers, sisters — drawn in.

Sanctifier and sanctified,

One in suffering, one in stride.

He suffered when temptation pressed,

So He could help the battle-stressed.

Not distant King who cannot feel —

But faithful High Priest, strong and real.

Final Chorus

Do not drift from mercy shown,

From suffering love that claimed His own.

He tasted death to set us free —

The Son who bled for humanity.

Hold fast the hope,

Draw near the throne —

Our Brother reigns,

Yet calls us home.
