The letter ends practically: love one another, show hospitality, remember prisoners, honor marriage, avoid greed, and be content. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever — stability amid change. Believers are called to go “outside the camp,” sharing in Christ’s reproach, since this world is not our lasting city. Through Him we offer sacrifices of praise and good works. The book closes with a blessing to the God of peace who raised Jesus, the Great Shepherd of the sheep.
Hebrews 13 — “Jesus Christ the Same”
Verse 1
Let brotherly love continue on,
Hospitality not withdrawn.
Some have welcomed angels near
Without even knowing they were here.
Remember those in chains confined,
As if you bore their weight in mind.
Honor marriage, guard it well,
Let no divided loyalties dwell.
Chorus
Be content with what you hold,
For He has promised, firm and bold:
“I will never leave your side,
Never fail nor step aside.”
So we say without dismay,
“The Lord’s my help — I will not sway.”
Verse 2
Remember leaders who once spoke
The word of God when faith was smoke.
Consider how their lives were spent,
Imitate their firm intent.
Jesus Christ remains the same,
Yesterday and now unchanged.
Do not chase strange winds of thought —
Grace, not ritual, makes you wrought.
Verse 3
We have an altar they can’t share
Who serve the tent still standing there.
The bodies burned outside the gate —
So Christ bore shame beyond the gate.
Let us go to Him outside,
Bearing reproach with holy pride.
For here we have no lasting land,
We seek the one by heaven planned.
Bridge
Through Him we offer praise always,
Fruit of lips His name that raise.
Do not forget to do what’s good,
Share as faithful people should.
Obey your leaders, keep the peace,
Let their burden find release.
Final Chorus (Benediction Tone)
Now may the God of peace restore,
Who raised the Shepherd evermore —
Through covenant sealed in blood so strong,
Equip you to do His will lifelong.
To Him be glory, now and then —
Through Jesus Christ. Amen.
